The year is 2280 and many planets are populated and regulated by the Galactic Council. The whole universe is our 'world' where life exists. Ravi who enjoys his weekends in a wild way, wakes on Monday morning and has no memories of just how wild his weekend must have been. He rushes to work where co-workers wait to hear his stories, but he avoids them because he cannot remember. He has two concerns, however, as a result of his weekend: a tattoo on his groin area, and voiding bright blue urine. He wonders if he has picked up a STD which leads him in a panic to seek advice. This situation leads to many humorous occurrences that many women will find very entertaining. This story is outrageously funny! It has to be the most dreaded nightmare for any man; but to women, it somehow seems quit fair, as they might say, "Try it sometime!" I can't say more, I don't want to ruin the funny story for you. An outrageous and witty story with a nice batch of fresh thinking. When one bad weekend ends up haunting Ravi in a way you never expected, we share in the horrors and humours of the repercussions in store.
The story is brilliantly written. I was drawn in quickly and soon found myself unable to put it down. More than that, I kept bursting out into laughter every so often. The humour is genius. It will literally have you rolling on the floor laughing! The outlook also explores another viewpoint on modern society, yet without interrupting a single beat of the fun.
It is a well-worth investment for anyone who's looking for a good time and an even bigger laugh!
This was a very enjoyable short story. Reading it from a woman's point of view it might be different than if l was a man. Yet, regardless of gender it was both funny and l had a feeling of "yep, told ya so" at the end.
On a deeper level, with out giving too many spoilers, the concept is one which many women would love to see happen to their husbands or boyfriends. At least it should happen for a few days or a couple of weeks in a male's lifetime. Preferably in their 20's.
Written very well, with characters that are completely relatable, l think any person would enjoy this story.
When I started reading this story, I wasn't sure where it was going. Ravi's character is a man who likes to have fun and often can't recall his weekends. I thought this might turn into a story with a simple moral of becoming a better person. I was wrong.
As the story progressed I began to see the deeper issues behind what was going on. This turned into a way to express gender issues, issues that (in the world of the book) keep occurring hundreds of years in the future when man has basically conquered the known universe.
What really made this story work for me was that it took on the differences in the male and female sexes. It brought out a topic that, even in today's world, not everyone talks about. Nothing Earth-shattering was thrown out there, but it still can make the reader think. And because this is a science fiction story, the way the theme was thrown into the mix, was quite enjoyable. I really only had one issue with the way this sex/gender theme played out. I feel that there was a disregard for how sexual orientation plays into...well, you'll need to read the story for that. I can't talk more in-depth without spoiling things.
I quite enjoyed this little read, and it gave me reason to reminisce. If you loved all the Heinlein, like I did, I think Jack has something good to offer.
The story was not the best written and the main character undergoing the transformation was just too accepting of it. But this was truly a novel concept.
Blue is for Boys is a well written, inventive, well thought out, highly entertaining story.
I wish it had been longer. I'll check out more stories by this writer.

I read this short story on Christmas morning on my new . There is nothing I love better than an entertaining, laugh-out-loud, insightful short story. This is all that and more. A wild & crazy take on gender roles. It compels you to think about men and women and how they do business. And think about it you will - probably in not quite the same way you have in the past. I don't want to give anything away. Just buy it! You won't be disappointed.
